Cultural understanding driving real change

Providing culturally safe care is essential to building trust and improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. In genomics, this means health professionals must understand how culture shapes experiences of health care and the use of genomic information.

Genomics Australia supports the delivery of cultural awareness and cultural safety training as part of workforce development. This training equips doctors, nurses, genetic counsellors and other professionals with the skills to consider cultural perspectives and provide care that recognises community priorities.

By strengthening awareness and capability, cultural safety training helps ensure genomics is delivered in ways that are fair, respectful and trusted by all communities.
