Shaping genomics through respect and partnership

Genomics Australia is committed to working in genuine partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We recognise the strength, knowledge and leadership that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities bring to the future of genomics and affirm that their voices must guide how this field develops.

Our intent is to embed cultural safety and align our approaches with the National Agreement on Closing the Gap Priority Reforms. Decisions about policy, research and service delivery will be shaped through shared decision-making and in genuine partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders and organisations.

Our commitment to this will be reflected in a soon-to-be published statement. Genomics in Australia will be developed in ways that respect culture, uphold rights and contribute to better health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Genomics Australia is committed to being culturally aware and responsive to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Our staff members participate in cultural learning programs to support and embed cultural safety across our work.
