Genomic services must meet the needs, expectations and rights of patients and their families.
Communicating genomics in culturally respectful ways, taking into account self-determination for individuals, families and communities helps people make informed decisions about their genomic health care.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations are working with community to co-design culturally appropriate resources to help communicate genomic information. The National Centre for Indigenous Genomics (NCIG), supported by the Australian Government, partnered with five Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Australia to develop culturally appropriate genomic resources in a variety of formats.
