Co-designing resources with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health organisations
Genomics Australia will work in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health organisations to develop or leverage relevant existing materials that are shaped by community priorities, values and lived experience. This approach ensures resources are not only accurate, but also meaningful, respectful and accessible.
Culturally safe and trusted information is essential for genomics to deliver real benefits. Through co-design, genomics information can be shared in ways that empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to shape their own health futures.
An example of co-designed community resources
The National Centre for Indigenous Genomics (NCIG), supported by the Australian Government, partnered with five Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Australia to develop culturally appropriate genomic resources in a variety of formats.
