Advisory Feedback and Consultation Mechanisms

Last updated

Genomics Australia relies on strong consultation to ensure genomics is developed in ways that reflect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander needs. Feedback and consultation processes create genuine opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices to shape policy and services.

Advisory group

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Group on Health Genomics was established in 2019. This group has provided expertise and lived experience to ensure cultural values and priorities are embedded in the establishment of Genomics Australia and development of the Ensuring Culturally Safe Health Genomics with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples – Guiding Principles.

Consultation mechanism

A dedicated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander engagement mechanism is being developed to support ongoing collaboration. This structure will strengthen Indigenous leadership, create space for genuine partnership and ensure cultural safety and inclusivity of Genomics Australia’s activities.

Feedback processes

Two-way communication is central to how Genomics Australia will engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, organisations and communities. We encourage people to share their experiences and ideas. Feedback is listened to, acknowledged and used to shape how genomics is developed and delivered.
