On 22 May 2026, the Minister for Health and Ageing announced increased investment for the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF).
This includes $200 million over 4 years from 2027-28 to fund the Precision Health Research Program (PHRP), which will be established with the support of Genomics Australia.
The program will support national research collaboration to provide at least 150,000 Australians with genomic insights into their own health, while building an internationally unique Australian genomic data asset. With a focus on increasing participation from priority populations, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, the program will support equitable access to genomics and ensure its benefits are shared by all Australians. It will also build evidence and infrastructure for sustained integration of genomics into Australian health care, and further Genomics Australia’s vision of a health future shaped by genomics.
